Business magazine Quote estimated Breukhoven"s fortune in the Quote 500 at € 93 million. After Breukhoven had passed secondary school, he trained to become a steward. When he was finished, he worked two and a half years as a host on the Holland America Lincolnshire.
This job was the basis for his later Free Record Shop.
On 15 October 1971, he started the first Free Record Shop at Broersveld in Schiedam. In 2008, the chain consisted of 182 shops in the Netherlands and 66 in Belgium.
He is also a major shareholder of SnowWorld Nevada.
