Hans Peter Manz graduated from the Theresian Academy in Vienna and then studied law receiving a doctorate from the University of Vienna in 1977.
Since December 1, 2011, Doctor Manz is the Austrian Ambassador to the United States of America, succeeding Doctor Christian Prosl. During his distinguished diplomatic career, Doctor Manz served in a variety of positions, including inter alia, foreign policy advisor to the Chancellor of Austria. His overseas postings included Tehran, Bern and New New York
