Hans Stockfleth

Background

He was a son of Danish merchant Eggert Stockfleth, was a brother of bishop Henning Stockfleth, and an uncle of diplomat Christian Stockfleth.

Career

Stockfleth was appointed bailiff of several districts. He served as mayor in Christiania from 1643 until his death.

Achievements

• By exploiting his position as bailiff to achieve personal wealth, he eventually came to be among the largest sawmill owners in Norway.
