Harold A. Albert was born on April 15, 1909 in London, United Kingdom.
Albert is remembered for his biographies on members of the royal family, especially those he penned under the pseudonym Helen Cathcart. It was not until after his death that the true identity of Cathcart became known, although some had long suspected the connection. Under his own name, he issued The Queen and the Arts, Cafe People, and Queen Victoria’s Sister: The Life and Letters of Princess Feodora.
Early in his career, he worked as a packer in a factory. He also dabbled in journalism with the Evening News. Later, he worked with the Ministry of Information and served as managing director of Harold Albert Ltd.
He also contributed articles to the Toronto Star Weekly. He used other pen names for some of the pieces, including Webster Fawcett and Mark Priestly. Meanwhile, he was secretly writing biographies as Cathcart.
