Attended, Malkin Conservatory, Boston, 1936-1937; studied composition with Ernst Krenek, 1937; studied piano with Eleanor Kerr studied composition with Walter Piston, Harvard University, 1938-1941; studied composition with Paul Hindemith, Berkshire Music Center, Tanglewood, Massachusetts, 1970; studied composition with Nadia Boulanger, Longy School, 1942-1943.
