Orahood, Harper M. was born on June 3, 1841 in Columbus, Ohio, United States. Son of William J. and Ann (Messenger) Orahood.


Public and high school education.


Joined emigrant train for Colorado in 1860. Spent 10 years in mercantile pursuits at Black Hawk and Central City. Admitted to bar, 1873.

Practiced for many years in partnership with Henry M. Teller and his brother, Willard. Member firm of Orahood & Orahood. President Riverside Cemetery Association, Fairmount Cemetery Association Was First lieutenant and commissary of subsistence, and later captain, Company D, 3d Regiment Colorado Volunteer Cavalry, Civil War.

Colonel on staff of Governor McIntire, 1895. Served as city attorney, Blackhawk, Central City and Denver. Postmaster Blackhawk, 1862-1871.

County clerk Gilpin Company, Colorado, 1866, 1867. District attorney 1st Judicial District, Colorado, 1877-1880. Member school board District Northern 1, Denver, 7 years (president 1 year).
