Began business career as cashier for Jay Cooke & Company for 4 years until failing eyesight compelled a year’s rest. Then business manager and managing editor The Philadelphia Item for 30 years Became interested in art, as a relaxation, in early ’60s, and studied under George West. Nicholson, and John South. Sargent, Philadelphia, and in Paris, under Gerôme and Fortuny. Has exhibited pictures in Philadelphia, Chicago.

Pittsburgh, Buffalo Exposition, 1901, the two Omaha Expns. and Charleston Exposition, where received medal, also at Saint Louis Exposition, 1904. Also gold medal at exhibition of America Art Society, Philadelphia. Has large and valuable art collection.
