Career
Ensign 98th Foot, 1866. Transferred to 47th Foot, 1806. Served with them in Canada, West Indies, Ireland, England, and East Indies.
Special Service, Ashanti, 1873 - 74. Vice-Consul in Bosnia, 1877-1878. In Asia Minor, 1879-1880.
With Mounted Infantry in South Africa in 1881. Aide-de-camp to Viceroy, India, 1884-1888. On the General Staff in Ireland, Jamaica.
And in Egypt, as Chief Staff Officer to Army of Occupation, from April 1896 to 31 December 1898. Aide-de-camp to the Sovereign, 1898-1904. AssistantAdjutant-General, Western District, 1899.
Served South Africa, 1899-1902. Decorated: medals for Canada, 1866. Ashanti, 1873-1874; Burma, 1885-1886.
Sudan, 1896; South Africa, 1899. Retired; commanding Essex Infantry Brigade, 1906; Vice-Chairman Essex Territorial Force Association.
