KEMPE, Harry Robert was born in 1852. Youngest son of late Reverend J. E. Kempe, Rector of St. James’s, Piccadilly.
Studied at Westminster School. King’s College London.
After leaving college was for 3 years associated with late Sir Samuel Canning, formerly Chief Engineer to the Telegraph Construction and Maintenance Company. The late Sir Charles Wheatstone, the pioneer of the present telegraph system. And the late Mr. Robert Sabine, Commander of Order of Leopold.
Joined the Postal Telegraph Service at Southampton, under Sir W. H. Preece, 1871, to whom he for many years acted as an assistant. Subsequently became a Technical Officer in the Engineer-in-Chief s Office. Electrician to the Postal Telegraph Department.
