Wilson received an MFA in 1970 and a BFA in 1966 from the San Francisco Art Institute.
Since 1971 he has been photography professor at Bakersfield College in California. Previously he was a photography instructor at the University of California Extension in Berkeley (1971) and at the San Francisco Photography Center (1966-71). From 1970 his themes have been the tourist landscape and the man-altered landscape. Prior to that, his themes were a spoof of the snapshot/family album (1969-74), and the social landscape (1965-69).
