1 son, Sherman Cowles. Began with Bank of Minnesota, 1890. With Northern Exch. Bank which merged with American Exchange Bank, 1896, now American National Bank of St. Paul.

Successively assistant cashier, 1896-1912, cashier, 1912-1925, vice president, 1925-1933, executive vice president, 1933-1939, and president American National Bank of St. Paul, 1939-1948, executive advisor, since 1948, also director. Trustee Minneapolis Mutual Life Insurance Company, St. Paul. Director Booth Memorial Hospital, St. Paul Foundation.
