Merrick, Harry Hopkins was born on October 15, 1873 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. Son of Ambrose Newell and Sarah Bates (Warriner) Merrick.


Bachelor of Laws, University of Minnesota, 1892.


Admitted to bar, 1892, and began practice in Minnesota. Moved to Sioux City, Iowa, 1893, and became house attorney for Tolerton & Stetson Company. Credit manager Hammond Packing Company, Omaha, also of Technology M. Sinclair Packing Company, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

General manager credits for Armour & Company, Chicago, 1901-1918. Vice president Central Trust Company of Illinois, July 1918-May 1919. President Great Lakes Trust Company, Chicago, 1919-1921.

A vice president Central Trust Company of Illinois (which absorbed Great Lakes Trust Company), 1921-1922. Moved to Los Angeles, 1922, and formed Merrick & Ruddick, Inc., general insurance and real estate, title of firm now Harry H. Merrick & Company, Inc. President Hollywood Foothills Improvement Association President Chicago Branch National Security League, 1916-1919.

Chairman draft bds., also of Coal Crisis Committee of Illinois and president Selective Service Association, 1917-1918, World War.
