Career
He was appointed the post in July 2003 by the current President of Somaliland, Dahir Riyale Kahin. He has previously served as the Governor of Saaxil between 1997 and 2003, and as the Mayor of Berbera from 1997 until 2003. Hassan Haji Mohamoud was born in the Somaliland region"s capital of Hargeisa.
He grew up in the city of Shiikh in the Saaxil region, and also spent some time in Mogadishu, Burco and Berbera.
Hassan hails from the Habar Awal sub-clan of the Somali Isaaq clan.
