Is well known for the numerous books he wrote on Japan in an attempt to interpret this country to the outside world. Also taught at Waseda and Tokyo universities. Among his numerous works are “Glimpses of Unfamiliar Japan,” “Kokoro,” “Karma” and “History of English Literature.”
He became so infatuated with Japan that he took up Japanese citizenship and married a Japanese girl.
