His mother Orfelia Segrestan, was daughter of a French merchant. In 1876 Canaveri was appointed Second lieutenant of the Argentine Army. Its designation bore the signatures of then-President Nicolás Avellaneda and his Minister of War Adolfo Alsina.
He militated in National Autonomist Party, holding the position of legislator of Buenos Aires province in 1890s.
