Career
As a Lutheran he took part in the Thirty Years War siding with the Habsburgs. Fought in Hungary for Rudolf II during Stephen Bocskay"s revolt in 1604. Also served in Flanders, Julich and Milan.
As a competent officer his advice was often overlooked, especially at the Battle of White Mountain that took place on November 8, 1620.
Von Schlick continued fighting for the Imperial forces under Johann Tserclaes, Count of Tilly, during the Danish Phase of the Thirty Years War 1626-1628. Von Schlick was at the Battle of Lutter fought on August 26–27, 1626.
Von Schlick was also in command of an Infantry Regiment Schlick, composed of Bohemians.
