Catholic economist who stressed the moral basis of economics, arguing that economic phenomena should be evaluated in terms of welfare, and called the social system he advocated ‘Christian solidarism’. This involved stressing the interdependence of groups within society and the necessity of subordinating private economic interests to the collective welfare of the people.
