Career
Fifty-first emperor.Ascended the Throne in 803. Named his era Daido. Improved Court administration by cutting unnecessary expenditures and simplifying the government system. Ruled for three years. After his abdication, Kusuko Fujiwara, a Court lady whom he loved, attempted to make him emperor again so that she might be empress. The plot was exposed and Kusuko killed herself and the ex-emperor became a priest. This is called the Kusuko Trouble.
