Helen Hughes Vick completed her studies at Southern Utah State University, earning her Bachelor of Arts in 1972. In 1974 she earned her Master of Arts degree from Northern Arizona University.

Mrs. Hughes worked as a special education teacher at Prescott Unified Schools, Prescott, AZ. Later she occupied the post of a part-time instructor at Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff. Mrs. Hughes Vick is a current writer. She is also a contributor to periodicals, including Cricket, Humpty Dumpty, Parents and Children Together, Light House, and Arizona English Bulletin.
