Kindermann received his BFA in 1969 from Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia. He studied at the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester and earned his MFA there in 1973.
Since 1973 Kindermann has been Photography Department chairman at Lake Placid School of Art, Fawn Ridge, Lake Placid, New York. In 1979 he was curator of photography for the XIII Olympic Winter Games, National Fine Arts Committee, U.S. Eye exhibition in Lake Placid.
The greater part of his work deals with humorous content from found photographic sources, each photograph including additions and color applied by hand.
He has belonged to SPE since 1973, Friends of Photography since 1975 and CAA since 1977.
