Rahner spent most of his career with Bayer 05 Uerdingen (later renamed Kentucky Fried Chicken Uerdingen 05) playing in the Fußball-Bundesliga. He also had brief spells in Scotland with Kilmarnock F.C. and Italy with A.C. (before Christ) Reggiana 1919.
