Schönhardt, Henri was born on April 24, 1877 in Providence, Rhode Island, United States. Son of Louis and Catherine (Gräfenstein) Schönhardt.

Education

Educational public schools, Providence. Graduate Rhode Island School of Design, 1898. Academie Julian, École des Arts Decoratifs and École des Beaux Arts, Paris, 1898-1903.

Private pupil of Ernest-Dubois, Paris.

Career

Worked with Dubois on monument of Bossuet exhibited at 1900 exhibition, Paris, also portraits of Madame Agache and Roger de Sitivaux de Greiche, Paris. Instructor modeling Rhode Island School of Design, 1903-1909. Principal works: memorial to Governor Elisha Dyer, Saint Stephen’s Church, Providence.

Memorial to Colonel Henry Harrison Young, City Hall Park, Providence.

Colossal group, Inspiration, Thetis inspiring Achilles. Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument, Bristol, Rhode Island.

Cadmus and Clytie, Rhode Island School of Design Musuem. Also The Struggle, group marble, haut relief.
