She graduated from Mount Holyoke Female Seminary in 1873, and from the University of Syracuse, in 1888, with a Doctor of Philosophy.
In 1889, she studied at Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität. She began teaching at Mount Holyoke, in 1875. In 1899, she was one of two Phd"s teaching at Mount Holyoke.
She retired in 1908.
She died on May 13, 1929 in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
