Entered Adjutant-General’s Office, 1875. Ai)- pointed a student Dragoman at Constantinople, 1877. Acting Vice-Consul, Diarbekir, 1880-1881.
Appointed His (or Her) Majesty Vice-Consul at Angora, 1SS3. Transferred successively to Van, Monastir, and Smyrna. Appointed His (or Her) Majesty Consul for Eastern Soudan, 1888, and transferred to Aleppo, 1894.
Appointed British representative on Consular Commission sent to Zeitoun, 1896, to negotiate surrender of that town to Turkish forces under Edhem Pasha. Consul-General at Ispahan, 1906-1908. Decorated for services rendered in connection with the capitulation of Zeitoun. Consul-General at Smyrna since 190S.
