He was educated in Boston, the youth entered Harvard with the class of 1875 and following graduation there spent six months abroad in travel and architectural study.
Shortly after returning to his native city he began a professional career under the firm name of Shaw & Hunnewell, and was active during the later years of the nineteenth century in designing a number ot public buildings in Boston and environs. Noted examples of the firms work include the Free Hospital for Women at Brookline; Pierce Hall at Harvard University; Ear and Eye Hospital at Boston; Boston Medical Library Building in the Fenway; Jefferson Physics Building at Harvard and the Library at Wellesley College. A resident of Wellesley, Mass., for many years Mr. Hunnewell designed many private homes there.
