His early archi¬tectural training was acquired in the office of Richard Upjohn, noted church architect. How long he worked in New York is not known, but in 1884 when he was admitted to Institute membership he was operating an office in St. Louis in partnership with the late George L. Barnett. In active practice there for a decade Mr. Isaacs designed a number of outstanding works, including the present Mercantile Library built in 1885; the Bank of Commerce, a seven- story structure on Broadway; Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion, Washington Street at 28th; Pilgrim Congregational Church; and Southern Hotel. In addition he was architect of a number of residences on Lucas Place, for some of the city's leading citizens.
