Henry Jervey, American army officer. Awarded Distinguished Service Medal “for especially meritorious and conspicuous services as director of operations, General Staff, and as assistant chief of staff during the war”; Commander Legion of Honor (French); Grand Officer Order of Leopold (Belgian); Companion of the Bath (British); Order of Crown of Italy.


Jervey, Henry was born on June 5, 1866 in in Virginia. Son of Henry (Doctor of Medicine and Helen Louise (Wesson) J.


Continuing education, University of the South, 1884, Doctor of Laws, 1920. Graduated from the United States Military Academy, 1888, Engineering School of Application, 1891, Army War College, 1916.

Promoted through grades to brigadier general, 1920. Promoted major general. Retired, 1930. In charge 4th District Mississippi River Improvement, 1898-1899.

Charge rivers and harbors on west coast of Florida, and defenses of Tampa Bay, 1899-1900. In Philippine Islands, 1901-1903. Instructor and assistant professor United States Military Academy, 1903-1905.

Charge rivers, harbors and defenses, Mobile District, 1905-1910. In charge river improvements Cincinnati District, 1910-1915. Appointed commander 66th Field Artillery Brigade, Camp Greene, Charlotte, North Carolina, September 1917.

Chief div. of operations, General Staff, February 1918. Commanded 41st Division, Camp Greene and Camp Mills. Commanded 11th Brig. Field Artillery, Hawaii, 1921.

Retired April 10, 1922.
