He attended City College for a year, was educated under tutors during 1881-82, and after taking up architectural study graduated in 1886 at Columbia University's old School of Mines. Later Mr. Kissam completed his professional training at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris.
Beginning his career at Tacoma, Wash., he practiced four years (1888-92) under the firm name of Kissam & Morris. In 1893 he returned to the east, and after a year in the New Haven office of Cady, Berg & See, served as General Manager of the New York office of Ernest Flagg until 1899. Later in that year he was appointed Supervising Architect on work at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, and moved to that city.
Shortly after the turn of the century Mr. Kissam established an office in New York, and through the following years practiced generally without associates.
