Studied at The Cincinnati Public Schools. At the age of 15 became a lithographer.
Left Cincinnati 1876 to study Art at Munich. Returned to America, 1878. Was elected a member of the New York WaterColour Society and Society of American Artists.
Settled in London, 1883. Painted mostly at Hampstead Heath and Kew Bridge. Elected mem ber of the International Society of Sculptors, Painters, and Gravers, and the Pastel Society, London, also of the Secession Societies in Munich and in Berlin.
Represented in the Galleries of Dublin and Munich (Pinakothek), and largely in important private collections. Received medals of the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, 1877. Chicago Universal Exposition, 1893.
Gold medals at the Munich (1897) and Dresden (1901) International Exhibitions. Also gold medal at the St. Louis Universal Exposition, 1904.
