Graduate Leipzig Conservatory of Music, 1878. Studied with Eduard Lassen, Weimer, Germany, 1878-1879.

Career

Teacher and mus. director, Chicago, 1879-1902. Leader Germania Männerchor, 1891-1902. Musical director Germania Turn-Verein, Los Angeles, California, April, since 1911.

Also Woman’s Symphony Orchestra, Los Los Angeles One of the most widely recognized American born composers. Won Symphony Prize, offered by National Conservatory, New York, 1892. Henri Marteau Prize, Paris, for piano and violin sonata, 1898.

Lillian Nordica Song-Prize, Philadelphia, 1906. Museum director 1st Pacific Saengerfest, Los Angeles, 1915, etc.
