Is a Justice of the Peace for the county of Cork, and was for several years a member of the Cork Town Council. Is an elected trustee of the following institutions:—the Cork Savings Bank, the Cork Butter Market, Skiddy’s Charity, and St. Stephen’s Hospital. Collected over £3000 for the Lord Mayor of London’s South African War Relief Fund.
Also raised a fund to erect a Cork Soldiers' Memorial, and was personally thanked by His (or Her) Royal Highness the Duke of Connaught. Took an active part as Honourable Treasurer in promoting and financing the Cork International Exhibitions of 1902-1903, and the people’s reception for the first time of their Majesties in Cork in August 1903. And, as a thoroughgoing Irishman by blood and instincts, is an ardent Loyalist and uncompromising Imperialist. Principal proprietor and managing editor of the Cork Constitution and Cork Weekly News.
