Background
Wales, Henry was born on June 14, 1888 in Englewood, Bergen Company, New Jersey, United States. Son of Henry G. and Frances Jane (Barker) W. Engaged in newspaper work in New York City, San Francisco, Denver and Chicago, went to Europe on outbreak of World War, 1914.
Career
With Paris edition of New York Herald, then correspondent of New York World, and war correspondent International News Service, attached to General Headquarters, American Expeditionary Force After Armistice joined foreign staff of Chicago Tribune, covering Paris Peace Conference. Continued as foreign political correspondent, covering League of Nations, Kapp Putsch, Berlin, Hitler Putsch, Munich, Mussolini’s march on Rome, Primo Rivera’s dictature in Spain, Zeligowski and Pilsudski coups in Poland, Prince Carol’s exile and return Bucharest, Greco-Turk operations, Anatolia and Dardanelles, Hispano-French operations against Riffs and Arabs, restoration outbreaks in Austria and Hungary. Toured Russia-Siberia, 1932, investigating 5-year plan, then visited China and Japan.
