On special duty in Baluchistau, and Assistant to Governor - General’s Agent, 1875-1878. Served Afghan War, 1878-1880 (medal).
As Chief Political Officer in Peshin, and with General Sir R. Phayre’s column (despatches twice, medal, C.S.L).
Assistant to Resident in Mysore, and Secretary to Chief Commissioner of Coorg, 1882-1885. Political Agent successively at Bhopawar, Jhallawar, and Bhopal. Resident at Nepaul, 1891-1900.
Officiating Agent to the Governor-General of India for Baluchistan, 1898-1900.
