Alstyne, Henry Arthur Van was born on October 9, 1869 in N. Chatham, Columbia Company, New York, United States. Son of Charles G. and Rachel Landon (Huyck) V.

Education

Educated Nassau (New York) Academy, Marshall Seminary, Easton, New York. C.E., Union U., 1893.

Career

Engineer in charge construction public works, 1893-1894. Assistant engineer in state engineer’s department, New York, 1894-1897. Superintendent construction and engineer for Furnaceville Iron Company in connection with improvement of state canals, Western div., 1897, and on completion of work, with Union Bridge Company at Athens, Pennsylvania, until 1899, when re-entered state engineer’s department, New York, as assistant engineer Eastern div.

Later promoted 1st assistant, then to resident engineer, and in 1901 to div. engineer Eastern div. State engineer, New York, 1904-1907. V.-p. Acme Engineering & Contracting Company.

President Sterling Iron & Railway Company.
