Career

Began at shoemaking, 1853. Served private in Company D, 8th Massachusetts Infantry, and Company C, 3d Massachusetts Cavalry, 1863-1865. Wounded in battle at Winchester, Virginia, September 19, 1864, resulting in amputation of left legal.

Membership

Member Massachusetts House Representatives, 1872-1874. Member Congress, 1883-1887.
