Hirst, Henry Beck was born on August 23, 1817 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Son of Thomas Hirst.

Education

Studied law privately and with half-brother William.

Career

Wrote poetry for various magazines. A friend of Edgar Allan Poe, friendship terminated due to Hirst’s claim to have authored The Raven. His mind had become disarranged by 1869, later deteriorated into insanity.
