(In recent years a considerable number of "dirty tricks" c...)
In recent years a considerable number of "dirty tricks" campaigns, alleged to have been carried out by MI5, have come to light. Reliable information on the truth of these matters is hard to obtain, but Chapman Pincher, with the aid of access to material denied to other journalists, is one of the few people who can come close. Here he examines the new evidence on the Markhov umbrella murder and the plot to assassinate the Pope, considers the lengths that President Bush is prepared to go to in order to keep Gorbachev in power and studies the effect of the opening up of Eastern Europe on the world of espionage.

( In this extraordinary volume, first published in 1981, ...)
In this extraordinary volume, first published in 1981, British journalist Chapman Pincher dissected the whole of the Soviet penetration of the western world during the twentieth century, helped unmask the Cambridge Five, and outlined his suspicions that former MI5 chief Peter Hollis was a Soviet super-spy at the heart of a ring of double-agents, poisoning the Secret Intelligence Service from within. Chapman Pincher began a career in journalism, joining the Daily Express as a science and defense correspondent at the end of the Second World War. He was regarded as one of the UK's finest investigative reporters of the twentieth century. He died in 2014.
