Ward, Henry Heber was born on July 20, 1871 in W. Haven, Connecticut, United States. Son of Israel Kimberly and Katharine Louise (Hannah) Ward.


Appointed United States Naval Academy from New Jersey, and graduate 1893.


Ensign United States Navy, 1895. Lieutenant junior grade, 1899. Advanced 10 numbers and commissioned Lieutenant, 1901.

On United States Ship Baltimore, Asiatic Station, 1893-1895. United States Ship Maine, 1895-1897. Navy Department, Washington, 1897.

Served as spy in Spanish-American War, 1898, and awarded medal for extraordinary heroism” during the war. Assistant to judge advocate on Schley Court of Inquiry, 1901. Secretary General Board of the Navy, and flag Lieutenant European Station.

Resigned from Navy, 1903. Secretary Navy League of the United States, 1907-1912, vice president, 1912-1916. Officer and director various corpns.
