Graduated from College of New Jersey (now Princeton), 1839). Studied law under Joseph Henry Lumpkin.

Career

Admitted to Georgia bar, 1842. Practiced in partnership with George H. Dudley, Americus, Georgia, 1842-1849, with Willis A. Hawkins, 1849-1861. Member Georgia Democratic Convention, 1860.

Second in command Lieutenant 12th Georgia Regiment, Confederate Army, 1861, promoted captain, assistant quartermaster, 1862, resigned, 1862. Member Georgia Constitutional Convention, 1868. The American Association For Justice Georgia Supreme Court, 1868-1875.

Practiced in Atlanta, Georgia., 1875-1882. Judge The United States of America District Court for Northern Georgia, 1882-1886.
