Wilson, Henry Lane was born on November 3, 1856 in Crawfordsville, Indiana, United States. Son of James and Emma (Ingersoll) Wilson.

Education

Bachelor of Arts, Wabash College, 1879, later Master of Arts, Doctor of Laws, 1930. Doctor Philosophy, Philology and Fine Arts, National University of Chile, 1911.

Career

In practice of law and banking, Spokane, Washington, 1885-1896. Appointed minister to Venezuela by President Harrison, 1889, but declined. United States minister to Chile, 1897-1905.

Appointed minister to Greece, 1903, but permitted to remain in Chile at his own request.

Envoy Extraordinary anu Minister Plenipotentiary to Belgium, 1905-1910. Appointed ambassador to Turkey, 1909, but transferred to Mexico before taking charge.

Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Mexico, December 1909-1913 (resigned). Special ambassador, crowning of King Albert of Belgium.

American delegate to Brussels Conference, on Collisions at Sea and to one to regulate use of arms in Africa.
