Eustis, Henry Lawrence was born on February 1, 1819 in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. Son of General Abraham and Rebecca (Sprague) Eustis.
Graduated from Harvard, 1838, A.M., 1850. Graduate United States Military Academy, 1842.
Assistant professor engineering United States Military Academy, 1847-1849. Professor engineering Harvard, 1849-1885, organized department engineering Harvard’s Lawrence Scientific School, dean science faculty, 1862-1863, 71-85. Commissioned brigadier general United States Volunteers, 1863, served in many important battles.
