Cist, Henry Martyn was born on February 20, 1839 in Cincinnati. Son of Charles and Janet W(hite) Cist.

Career

United States Senator Thomas A. Morris of Ohio, September 22, 1868. Married second, Jennie E., d. Martin Bare, Cincinnati, April 12, 1882.

Enlisted April 21, 1861, private 6th Ohio vols. Became Second lieutenant 52d Ohio volunteer infantry. Adjunct 74th Ohio vols.

Post adjunct Camp Chase during confinement of prisoners of war captured at Fort Donelson. Served in middle Tennessee, 1862. Adjunct Miller’s brigade, September 1862.

Later assistant adjutant general Department of the Cumberland, on staff Generals Rosecrans and Thomas. Resigned January 4, 1866. Attained rank of major and assistant adjutant general, with bvts. of lieutenant colonel, colonel and brigadier general After war practiced law, Cincinnati.

Mayor of College Hill, O., 2 terms. Correspondent secretary Army of the Cumberland, 1869-1892 (edited 20 annual reports of society). Author: The Army of the Cumberland, 1882.
