Career
Appointed teacher in Waisenhaus at Halle, 1738. Came to Philadelphia to prevent union of Lutherans of the United Congregations (Philadelphia, New Providence, New Hanover) with other German Protestants in Pennsylvania, 1742. Organized 1st Lutheran Synod in American, 1748.
Visited Lutheran congregations throughout New England. Recognized as virtual founder of Lutheran Church in Am.
