Bachelor of Arts, Hobart, 1862, A.M., 1865, Doctor of Laws, 1892. Served in commissary department Union Army, 1863-1865. Studied in Albany (New York) Law School.

Career

Admitted to bar, 1865. Removed to Tennessee, 1866. Commissioner of claims, 1868-1869.

Delegate Constitutional Convention, 1870. Member Senate, 1871-1872. Republican nominee for presidential elector, 1872 and 1880.

Member House of Representatives, 1875-1876. Founded, and editor, Knoxville Republican, 1879-1881. Postoffice inspector, 1881-1882.
