Background
OSWALD, Henry Robert was born in Trichinopoly. Son of late Surgeon-General H. R. Oswald, Indian Army, and Sarah Georgiana, daughter of late Lieutenant-Col.W. Percy Cunningham, Madras Army, through whom descent claimed from Earls of Glencairn (title extinct).
Education
Studied at Private schools in Isle of Man and Edgbaston. Royal High School and University of Edinburgh.
Career
After leaving school studied privately with intention of entering Indian Civil Service. Entered instead University of Edinburgh, and graduated Bachelor of Medicine and Certificated Master and Doctor of Medicine. Practised medicine until 1890.
Then entered Middle Temple, and was called to the Bar, 1894. Was Deputy-Coroner in Central and Western Districts, County of London, and later in the South-Western District. Also in Kingston district of Surrey.
Contested election of Coroner for City of London, 1901. Coroner, South-east District, Company of London, since 1902; Barristerat-law, Middle Temple, and Central Criminal Court; Graduate (in medicine) of University of Edinburgh.
