Huidekoper, Henry Shippen was born on July 17, 1839 in Meadville, Pennsylvania, United States. Son of Edgar and Frances (Shippen) Huidekoper.

Bachelor of Arts, Harvard, 1862, A.M., 1872.

Career

Served in Civil War, July 1862-March 1864. Lieutenant colonel commanding 150th Pennsylvania Regiment, at Gettysburg, where he was twice wounded and lost right arm. Received Congressional Medal of Honor “for gallantry in battle.” After war was 15 years brigadier general and major general National Guard of Pennsylvania.

Commanded 7th div. during railroad riots of 1877. Postmaster of Philadelphia, 1880-1885. Overseer of Harvard, 1898-1910.
