Career
On January 27, 1942, Leary was appointed commander of the ANZAC Force based in Australia. On April 22, 1942, the ANZAC Force was absorbed by the South West Pacific Area command under United States Army General Douglas MacArthur, and Leary took command of MacArthur"s naval forces. Leary was replaced by Arthur South. Carpender on September 11, 1942.
