From Preface: "This grammar of the German language is a reference source and a workbook for Germans and for those who possess a fundamental knowledge of German. It presents a survey of the various linguistic forms which exist in the language today, explains the use of these forms, and then leads into German syntax in a modern approach. In its structure and its systematic sequence this book, for methodological reasons, follows the traditional manner of presentation, but also goes beyond it to present more recent methods of linguistic analysis of the German language. Thus the reader obtains a deeper insight into the nature of the language than was possible by the methods of presentation formerly used for foreign language teaching...."
