Joined 1st Leinster Regiment at Calcutta, 1888. Iirst British officer to make a balloon voyage in India. Constructed first balloon made in India, 18S9.
Travelled on Indian frontier, 1890.
Explored and surveyed unknown parts of Persia and Arabia. Investigated and reported on Karun River and Seistan trade routes, 1891.
Taken prisoner by Cossacks on Russo-Persian frontier. Interviewed Generals Kuropatkin and Alikhanoff in Transcaspia.
Travelled 20,000 miles through Central Asia, Asiatic Turkey, Russia, Caucasus, et cetera, 1891-1892.
Travelled extensively in Asia Minor, Turkey, and Balkan States, 1895-1896. Has since travelled in North America, West Indies, and other countries. Thanked by Meteorological Department Government, of India for balloon observations, 1889.
