Career
While not a practicing architect, Mr. Palmer was prominently identified with the profession for more than half a century. Largely due to his efforts the Illinois Architectural Act became a State Law in 1897, the first legislation enacted to establish and regulate the practice of Architecture as a profession. It was followed by a similar law in California in 1901, and other states successively took legal action.
In 1914 when the Chicago Architects Business Association was re-organized as the Illinois Society of Architects, Mr. Palmer served as its Financial Secretary until the time of his death. He also assisted in forming the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.
